Where and what is Scotland, USA, you say?
*As I point to the very center of the palm, holding up my open hand.* ✋⬅️
Let me tell you all about Alma – Scotland USA!
In the middle of everything is Alma, Michigan, otherwise referred to as Scotland, USA! That’s what the sign says, that’s what we stick with and that’s what we celebrate! Now is a great time to mention, if you haven’t been to a Highland Festival & Games yet, it’s time you go!
Nicknamed for a unique history alongside passionate showmanship and a special Scottish charm, is Alma! A quaint town tucked away in the rolling hills of Central Michigan’s farm country. With a notable downtown district dressed in colorful art, floral and plenty of plaid! We are the home of the Scots and love our tartans, which clan are your ancestors?
A summer stroll down Alma’s State Street Historic District will take you through a charming olde world neighborhood, fit with modern folks gathered around driveway campfires. A nod or quick wave is the norm. We’re all pretty friendly around here.
Walk the downtown area with it’s hidden alleyways and artistry around every corner. I’ll argue that Alma is the most bright and colorful small town around! It’s a safe place to visit and raise a family, with opportunities for the arts and culture that rival much larger cities. Continuing to improve with each new renovation and restaurant. New shops, new apartments, progressive business, easy to access, right in the middle of the great State of Michigan!

Come and see how nice it can be in my hometown of Scotland USA!
For as long as I can remember, I looked forward to the time when Alma came alive to the sound of bagpipes. As a child, it wasn’t uncommon to hear a bagpiper practicing off in the distance while playing at the many parks in town. Bagpipes in the background always had us looking forward to the annual Highland Festival and Games each Memorial Day Weekend!
Highland Festivities have been around since the 60’s, creating champions and drawing crowds from all corners of the world. As the hometown to one of the premier academic institutions in the Midwest, we are proud of our Scots! Where else might you catch sight of a caber toss?
