Clare, Michigan has a rich history that dates back much further than my memories recall. In the 1800’s it was bustling with railroad activity. Now it is a charming town, known as the gateway to the North.

My grandpa was a farmer, and my ancestors were Amish, so I have been attending Amish events and frequenting Amish owned businesses since I can remember. The people of Clare are no stranger to the Amish and host a huge Amish Flea Market and Quilt – keep reading for more details!

I also remember attending concerts at the Clare County Fairgrounds, I got Willie Nelson’s autograph there when I was 10 years old. And of course, I remember visiting for Clare Irish Festival!

Yoder’s Amish Flea Market – May 20-21 & September 2-3, 2022

Twice a year, the third weekend in May and the first weekend in September, Yoder’s Amish Farm becomes the local hot spot. The Yoder Family and their friends hold a large quilt auction and craft show.  This two-day event consists of rows of crafters, antiques, and flea marketers-hundreds of vendors. 

One of the largest, well attended, craft shows, flea markets, and quilt auctions in Michigan. The Yoder Family also host a horse and equipment auction two weeks before the quilt auction each spring and two weeks after each fall. Herrick Recreation Area

The Herrick Recreation Area consists of several outdoor activity areas as well as, 73 campsites and 5 rustic cabins. Bring your fishing pole, catch some rays at the sandy beach and enjoy a picnic in the sun. With three ponds on site, as well as a boat launch and playground, there is fun to be had by everyone.

Rooftop Landing Reindeer Farm

Let’s celebrate Christmas every day 🎄 Be sure to stop and visit the gentle reindeer at @rooftoplandingreindeerfarm in Clare! 🦌 When Santa’s reindeer aren’t busy working and making special appearances around the state, this is their home on a reindeer farm!

The farm has an elf inspired playground for littles and alpacas too! Check their website for the live reindeer cam and hours of operation.

Visit in November and December to go on a Santa Jeep wagon ride around the farm, have donuts by the campfire, clowns, magic and, the chance to watch Santa and a few of his bravest elf’s parachute to the farm.

Clare Union Railroad Depot

The 119-year-old Clare Railroad Depot has an interesting history in the area. It was constructed in 1887; destroyed by a fire in 1894; and rebuilt in 1895 by the Pere Marquette and Ann Arbor Railroads. It was used for passenger service on the Ann Arbor line until 1850 and by the Pere Marquette Line (then a part of the C&O Line).

Now the Clare Railroad Depot is home to a museum on railroad history, Clare Chamber of Commerce as well as Clare Arts Council.

Cops N Doughnuts

This doughnut shop and bakery has been in operation since 1896. Boasting handmade confections of all types. Join us for a warm fresh doughnut and a steaming cup of cops coffee while you enjoy the police decor. This business was within weeks of a permanent close when nine members of the Clare Police Department came to the rescue, to save this historic business.

Art Alley

Tucked just behind the Rock Stop shop, is the exit for the one-way alley running behind Cops N Doughnuts, 505 Cafe and The Venue. The art pieces are all 3D with added beadwork and metalwork.
